Sustainability

Social Sustainability Policy

“Sustainability is a common goal that should involve every individual both from an active point of view, as the person primarily responsible, and from a passive one, as a beneficiary.”

According to the definition proposed in the “Our Common Future” report, published in 1987 by the ‘World Commission on Environment and Development of the United Nations Environment Programme’, sustainable development is defined as:

“Development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own.”

In this definition, the concept of sustainability is linked to the three pillars that make the development of economic activities and the protection of the environment compatible:

Social sustainability

Ensuring quality of life, safety, and services for citizens

Environmental sustainability

Ensuring the availability and quality of natural resources

Economic sustainability

Ensuring economic efficiency and income for businesses

Sustainability as a corporate value

The main purpose of Sustainability at SIPAL S.p.A. (hereinafter SIPAL) is to achieve the principle of equity, therefore, in a broader sense, also addressing the social divide and acting to realize conditions of dignity for the life of every human being; an approach that is very much alive in today’s corporate market, which dictates impactful rules and results that are part of a much larger perspective, also expressed through social sustainability within the company, aligning typical financial management tasks—including the optimization of the risk-return ratio over a given time horizon—with broader, collective aspects touching on nature, society, and/or governance.

Sustainable development—various terms are in use today—is thus configured as an ethical financial reality that makes economic choices through investment solutions not aimed exclusively at the pursuit of short-term profit.

Pursuing environmental sustainability policies means using natural resources responsibly and protecting ecosystems, favoring a responsible use of energy sources and developing a greater awareness of the impact of actions, encouraging recycling and fighting against waste in a general sense. Environmental sustainability implements actions through the change not only of habits, but of social norms and conventions, via international associations and organizations that share these goals.

In detail, the factors that confirm the efficiency of behaviors depend on descriptive indicators, which aim to draft, according to specific time coordinates, the actual use of resources expressed in physical units (for example, tons of CO2 emissions); performance or effectiveness indicators, i.e., a ratio indicating how close the premise is to the result achieved in the field of environmental policy; efficiency indicators, which show the data between a demonstrated environmental result and the economic resources invested to get there (reduction of atmospheric emissions/cost of structural and/or management interventions); and finally, overall well-being indicators, which encapsulate the total sustainability percentage in a final report.

Three distinctive factors

SIPAL combines three elements that rarely coexist in the same partner. Securtech specialization integrates physical and digital security to protect classified information, equipment, environments, and sensitive processes. Applied research transforms artificial intelligence, augmented reality, digital twins, sensors, and data analysis into mature products for monitoring, maintenance, training, and asset management. The agility of a lean structure, supported by the production and financial capacity of the FININC Group, accelerates development, allows for deep customization, and ensures continuity for the most complex programs.

Securtech

Physical and digital protection for sensitive environments, information, and infrastructure.

Research & Development

AI, augmented reality, and digital twins transformed into mature and operational products.

Agility and solidity

The speed of a lean structure, backed by the industrial strength of FININC.

Corporate Social
Responsibility

Regarding Corporate Social Responsibility activities promoted by the European Commission, which viewed C.S.R. as a valuable support tool for community policies, particularly in promoting sustainable development, SIPAL adopts the following definition:

“The voluntary integration of social and ecological concerns by companies into their business operations and their relationships with stakeholders.”

SIPAL voluntarily incorporates concern for the consequences on society and the environment into its corporate strategies.

Sustainability is therefore the end to strive for, the goal to be achieved: the balance between the three dimensions (social, environmental, and economic) that allows a company to be below or at the planet’s sustainability threshold (the limit that allows for the protection of the planet itself).

Social Responsibility encompasses the actions that SIPAL has begun to implement to achieve corporate Sustainability.
